Your Small Business Can Accept Credit Cards in a Big Way

Your Small Business Can Accept Credit Cards in a Big Way

by Jim Osterman

a great place for those people who have always nurtured the dream of owning their own business. Instead of having to rent our buy space all one has to do is secure a domain name and sign on with a hosting service. And with drop shipping, e-store owners don't even have to maintain inventory.
Indeed, the low overhead that comes with having one's business online also makes it easier to turn a profit. And that has made the virtual world even more enticing for the entrepreneur as the financial risks and rewards are much more easy to juggle.

However, no successful business can become static or things start to erode. That is why most online business people keep an eye out for anything that will help their business grow. Perhaps a fancier site design or maybe switching some items being sold to see if that kicks some fresh energy into the mix.

One avenue they might pursue is the idea of credit card online processing services. Some might just like the idea while others have heard about all the good things that merchant services could bring. Several studies have shown that an Internet business with merchant services will see increases in traffic, repeat business, sales and profits. All great things to help anyone's business grow to the next level and beyond.

However, here is where many online shopkeepers scuttle their own efforts. They let their assumptions carry more weight than any facts they may come across as they research the ability to accept payments online.

They assume credit card processing is for bigger businesses.

They assume credit card processing costs will outweigh any financial benefit.

They assume that there isn't a plan that is structured for a business like theirs.

And they get wrapped in up in their assumptions that they start to treat them as facts and they forget about merchant services as a way to build their bottom line. And that's too bad because assumptions are hardly ever factual if any research has been added to the mix.

This is why it is so vital, no matter what size business you have that you are willing to drill down and get some facts before you make any decision that will affect your business.

It is true that there will be several merchant services providers that might think you are too small for credit card services, and most banks fall into this category, but keep in mind that any company that says you aren't big enough usually means you aren't big enough for them to offer services to and make a profit.

And that means you have to stay active and keep looking because there are a lot of great merchant account companies out there who can let you accept credit cards at a price you can live with. But it's up to you as the business owner not to be easily dissuaded, because that can mean your business might not reach the profitability that it potentially could realize.

So the key things to remember are don't confuse your assumptions with facts, and that credit card online processing services can help your small business become a big business.

7 Reasons Your Small Business Needs a Credit Card

7 Reasons Your Small Business Needs a Credit Card

by Debbie Dragon

With more than 600,000 new small businesses started each year, it's safe to say that the dream of being a successful business owner is a strong one. If you are considering starting your own business, or are already the proud owner of a business- here are 7 reasons why your small business needs a credit card:

1. Keep your personal finances and business finances separate. It's easier than you think to accidentally mix up your funds. Using a credit card that is used only for your business expenses and purchases eliminates the problem of labeling every transaction in your personal checkbook or on your personal credit card statements at the end of the month.

2. Build credit in the name of your business. If you obtain a credit card in your business name, the more you use it and make on-time payments, the stronger you will build the credit score of your business. After several months of building a good credit history, you may be able to obtain small business loans or other sources of financing if necessary.

3. Get stuff for free. There are numerous rewards programs with credit cards. If you choose one that works for your business, you can easily earn the things you usually buy for free. For example, some rewards credit cards offer you a way to earn office supplies at a discount. The key to making a rewards program successful is to choose one with no annual fee and pay your balance off in full each month. If you travel regularly for business, it would make sense that you get a card with travel rewards- either earn miles towards free flights, or get free or discounted hotel rooms.

4. Easy record keeping. Owning a small business means you are allowed to deduct certain purchases on your taxes, but only if you have good records to prove you've made those payments. A credit card with an annual, itemized statement will make tax season a snap, regardless of the number of transactions you've made on your card.

5. Additional credit cards for employees. As your business grows, you may find the need to allow key employees within the organization the ability to make purchases or pay for business expenses on your behalf. Most credit card companies will allow you to obtain additional cards in other people's names. Your transaction listings and statements will show which credit card made each purchase, allowing you to see at a glance whether the employee use of credit is being abused or not.

6. Concierge services. Depending on the credit card you choose, you may benefit from additional services like reservation assistance, verification of flights, and even a personal shopping service. Did you forget to get your wife flowers for your anniversary? A quick call to your credit card concierge service and they can make the arrangements for you.

7. Travel benefits. In addition to the potential to save money on travel costs with a credit card rewards program, most credit cards offer travel accident insurance that helps cover you for things like lost luggage or flight cancellations.

Use a Small Business Credit Card to Manage Your Business

by Pamela Williams

One of the major concerns for those who have small businesses or who are just starting up with a business is financing. In the past, it obligatory to come up with a large cash that will be sufficient as working capital in order to put up business or even a small enterprise. Today, small businesses can take advantage of the fact that they can use small business credit cards to help them not only to start up a business but in managing it as well.

Can you really use a small business credit card for starting up your business? The answer is yes. Credit cards for small business can be of great assistance to prepare all the equipment you need to begin your business operations. Some of the equipment or device essential for a business is a computer, printer, a fax machine, telephone, or a cash register. With a small business credit card, you don't have to buy all these things with cash. You can charge these expenses to your small business credit card and pay them off in installment mode the next month after you already open up business.

Credit cards for small businesses can also be used as your working capital. You can buy raw materials with your business credit card so you can start manufacturing your products right away or you can also wholesale merchandise that you plan to put on market and start selling right away. Afterwards, you can pay off these expenditures in a monthly basis using your small business credit card.

Another great advantage of credit cards for small business is when you get short on your cash flow in the middle of your business operations. Your small business credit card can truly come in handy in purchasing items or paying for services such as printing or shipping purposes that are urgently in need.

The benefits that small business credit cards give are truly rewarding. Speaking of rewards, most credit cards for small businesses offer great incentives for their card holders whether in the form of cash rebates, cash back programs or fee travel tickets. Since businesses usually purchase in bulk or in large packages, the opportunity to earn points equivalent to bonuses is much bigger than for those who use regular credit cards.

If you're thinking about starting up your business with small business credit card, you are very much welcome to do so. Just remember the advice that applies for all those who own credit cards. Pay off your monthly charges on time and never put off one single payment.

It would be best to have a plan prepared on how you will pay for your purchases even before you purchase them using your small business credit card. This way, you can consider how much you can afford to pay and avoid exceeding your budget. Technically, this is really the only key in managing credit cards successfully whether it's a business credit card or a personal credit card. Lastly, it is always recommended for businesses to open a regular business account in a bank as soon as the business becomes stable.

Small business credit cards are credit instruments that cater specifically to the needs of small businesses. They are like your normal credit card except for some changes in interest rates and features which are optimized for use by small businesses. They are very useful for small businesses that desire to streamline their finances and access extra credit.

The numbers of small businesses that use these cards are ever-growing. A recent report shows that 66% of small businesses use these cards for purchasing and financing. Forty percent of this number use their exclusively use credit cards for their payments. But why should a business apply for one? Are there any benefits that merit application for such a card? There are many advantages. Some of them will be outlined below.

For one, these cards allow a business to get hold of good credit. Good credit is the use of borrowed finances to generate more cash. In effect, the act of borrowing actually results in the company earning more. A small business credit card allows for this. The business then is able to keep hold of finances for other reasons: investing for interest, for profit, or other needs the business may have for cold cash. They can pay in easy installments that will not dent the financial capability of the business. They can also pay when they are capable of paying.

Another advantage of using small business credit cards is the fact that they help make bookkeeping easier. Instead of keeping a journal of all transactions and receipts, one can have the credit card company send an itemized list of purchases made using their credit card. This allows for better bookkeeping and better accounting. Lost receipts and undocumented expenses can be avoided. This helps the business make more accurate financial reports.

Small business credit cards also allow businesses to build up their credit limit. Small businesses will typically need capital for new equipment, or to expand their business. A good credit limit will allow small business to access credit that would otherwise be inaccessible to small businesses. Bigger capital opens up the possibility of greater profits.

These cards also offer the option of limiting one business's spending. This would be very useful for a business that is keeping a tight watch over its finances.

Small business cards are quickly becoming an efficient way to increase buying power and capital. With these advantages, it may soon be that small businesses will regard these small business credit cards as a necessity.
